The short version: we count pages and clicks so we know which books are worth making, and we do it without cookies and without knowing who you are. Everything that involves your personal data happens at checkout, and that is run by Polar.
What this website does
calligraphycoach.com is a set of static files. There is no login, no account, no shopping basket and no database. It loads no fonts, adverts, pixels, embeds or social widgets from anyone — the typefaces are served from this site itself. The one thing it does load from a third party is our analytics, described below, and that is the only request that leaves for anywhere but this domain.
Our host, Cloudflare, keeps ordinary server logs (IP address, page requested, timestamp, user agent) for a short period for security and abuse prevention. We do not read them for marketing and we cannot use them to identify you.
Analytics
We use PostHog to see which books people look at and which buttons they press, so that we know which books to make next. That is the whole purpose. It is not advertising, we run no ads anywhere, and nothing collected here is sold or shared with anyone.
What it records when you visit:
- the pages you open, and when
- where you arrived from — the referring site, and any campaign tags (utm_source and its family) on the link you followed
- what you click: buy and "coming soon" buttons, "look inside" previews, links off to Polar, and ordinary links and buttons, including the text printed on them
- your IP address, which PostHog turns into an approximate location — country, region and city, never an address
- your browser, operating system, device type, screen size and language
It does not record your name or email address, anything you type, your keystrokes or mouse movements, or video of your session. We do not use it to build a profile of you, and we could not: it is switched tocookieless mode. PostHog sets no cookie here and writes nothing to your browser's storage, which is why there is no cookie banner on this site. The trade-off is ours to live with — we cannot tell a returning reader from a new one, and every page you open looks to us like a different person.
PostHog Inc. processes this on our behalf as our data processor, on servers inthe United States. Their privacy policy is at posthog.com/privacy. If we ever move it to a different region, this page changes with it.
How to opt out
If your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal, we check for it before anything loads and PostHog is never fetched at all — not blocked after the fact, simply never requested. Both are a setting in your browser or a small extension; Global Privacy Control is the one still worth turning on, as most browsers have quietly dropped Do Not Track.
Any ordinary content blocker also stops it, and the site works exactly the same without it — nothing on these pages depends on analytics loading. And if you would rather just ask, write to hello@calligraphycoach.com and we will tell you anything we can see, which for a single visitor is close to nothing.
What happens when you buy something
Clicking a buy button takes you to Polar Software Inc. (Polar.sh), our merchant of record. From that moment Polar is the data controller for the transaction. Polar collects what a sale requires — your email address, payment details, and enough billing information to charge the right tax — and processes it under its own privacy policy. This is true of the free books too: a free checkout still asks for an email address, because that is how the file gets to you.
We can see order records in Polar's dashboard: what was bought, when, the buyer's email address and country. We use that to answer support emails and to know which books are worth making more of. We do not sell it, and we do not add anyone to a mailing list from a purchase alone.
Your files
Your downloads live in your Polar customer portal, reachable with a one-time code sent to the email you bought with. We never hold a copy of your payment details and cannot see them.
If you email us, we keep the thread so we can help you, and we reply from a normal mailbox. If you ask a "tell me when this is ready" question, we keep your address only until we have told you, unless you ask to stay on the list.
Your rights
You can ask us what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask us to delete it — write to hello@calligraphycoach.com and we will do it. For anything held by Polar as part of a purchase (orders, invoices, payment records), ask Polar, or ask us and we will pass it on. Some records have to be kept for tax and accounting reasons even after a deletion request; those are Polar's obligation as merchant of record.
Changes
If we ever switch cookies on, add a newsletter or add anything else that touches your data, this page gets updated before it goes live, not after.
